A Taste of Colorado Is a ‘Can’t Miss’
Labor Day Weekend Tradition

        Colorado’s annual Labor Day weekend celebration, A Taste of Colorado, returns to Downtown Denver’s Civic Center Park on Friday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 3, 2012.  In its 29th year as the state’s largest free-admission outdoor event, A Taste of Colorado draws more than 500,000 visitors annually. 
       American rock vocalist and songwriter Lou Gramm, The Voice of Foreigner, will kick off the Festival on the Main Stage, Fri., Aug. 31, at 7:30 p.m. Best known as the original lead singer for the band The Guess Who, Burton Cummings with the Burton Cummings Band will rock Sat., Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. Alternative rock band Spin Doctors will get the crowd moving Sat., Sept. 1, at 7:30 p.m. Classic rock band Head East is set to perform Sun., Sept. 2, at 1 p.m. Grammy-winning R&B group The Pointer Sisters will take the Stage Sun., Sept. 2, at 7:30 p.m. Country music singer/songwriter Dustin Lynch will perform on Labor Day, Mon., Sept. 3, at 1 p.m. Alternative funk band G. Love & Special Sauce will close out the Festival Mon., Sept. 3, at 5 p.m.  
     In addition to the Main Stage, four other entertainment stages located throughout the Festival will serve up a continuous menu of music, including the KBCO World Class Rock Stage presented by Date Night Denver, KYGO Country Stage, and the TUMS Freshers Heritage Stage presented by Westword.
     More than 50 of Colorado’s favorite food establishments will be selling a wide variety of small portions to full meals, ensuring that there will be something for every palate.  The Fine Dining area will host some of Denver’s finest restaurants.  The Albert Bartlett Culinary Showcase, presented by 630 KHOW and hosted by Pat Miller, “The Gabby Gourmet,” features local and nationally renowned chefs, including The Food Network’s Keegan Gerhard from D Bar Desserts and Jenna Johansen from Bravo’s Around the World in 80 Plates, offering tips and techniques that Festival goers can take home to their own kitchen.  In addition, make sure to catch one of two demos on Sunday from Andrew Fairlie, Michelin Star Chef and Albert Bartlett Ambassador.

      Festival goers can shop in more than 280 Marketplace booths for original arts and crafts, home and gift items, furniture, jewelry, imports, and more.  Fine Art in the Park will display original works in a variety of mediums created by artists from around the country.  Shoppers also can explore the Home & Lifestyles area, which features a variety of exhibitors displaying products and services such as window installation, kitchen remodeling, cookware, basement refinishing, and salons and spas.
       There will be plenty of music, magic, clowns, and puppets on the Comfort Dental KidzStage presented by MIX 100, and the KidZone features play equipment and hands-on craft activities.  Kids and adults also can enjoy carnival rides and games Saturday through Monday.
       In the Festival of Mountain and Plain area, families can learn about the state’s pioneer past, nature, and the environment.  Featured artisans will demonstrate Navajo weaving and culture, spinning, rug braiding, lace crocheting, felting, and quilting, along with the popular blacksmith demonstration.  At the Raptor Education Foundation (REF) exhibit, children can learn about birds, their environment, and their interactions with humans.
