Hi Anistacia,
ReplyDeleteI have attached a link to my daughters fund raising initiative. Before you hit delete, allow me to quickly describe her efforts. My daughter is a 20 year old that loves anything and everything that is truly vintage. She made up her mind about a year ago to create a book of classic neon signs, she shopped for publishers and has actually had the book picked up. She is carrying all the costs from motels, gas, etc.. to collect the images throughout the Southern California and desert regions. I am being shameless and soliciting donations to allow this book to become a reality. My daughter, like you, wants to preserve and protect these signs, she feels that creating this book will help educate and inspire a love that may go a long way in ensuring vintage neon signs are cared for long into the future.
If you are not able or willing to donate please just check out her story, I think you may find it refreshing that someone so young is so in love with these classic monuments of our past.
Thanks
Jeff

ReplyDeleteThis site should have something in it about the infamous Freddie's Lounge, supposedly also known as Ricki's Lounge, Pla-Mor Restaurant
once located at 6300 West Colfax Avenue, SW corner of West Colfax and Kendall, a block west of the also-infamous "Bugs Bunny"
The original building is long gone now, replaced by an abandoned Walgreens.
Freddies for years (1972-1980) was one of the best rock&roll and "country-rock" (NOT country) bars in Denver. Everybody who was anybody in a local band played there, even some national acts.
During some of it's best times it was owned by Jay Ambrose, a former editor for the Rocky Mtn News, and his wife at the time, Jane. He would have history, stories and possibly some pics. I think this is him:
Jay Ambrose (approx age 68)
Home (303) 526-2260
628 Kinnikinnik Hl
Golden, CO 80401-9653
Thanks for the site, I enjoyed it, and I hope you get around to calling Jay or doing something about Freddies some day.
This info is not correct. I am freddies nephew and it seemed jay ambrose didnt know anything about it when i called. Though i am doing a report on freddies/rickies and was wandering if you could give me a call at 3032422694 and tell me some info. I am also marion amatos grandson who was shot in there and was the previous owner before my uncle freddy.
